Compliance in Developing countries is a balancing act

Compliance is a balancing act between home-country regulations, international guidelines, and local rules and customs. Compliance issues arise in many countries based on customs of the regions. For example, US regulations require gender balance on IRBs which is a problem in patriarchic cultures. In some developing countries, medical records consist of index cards completed by the doctors and taken home between visits by the patients. However, countries such as Zimbabwe have research regulation far more stringent then the US.
